ABOUT

Subatomic Cookie Bandits are not a pretty band, but they make beautiful music together.

Lead singer Chris is the first to admit looks are not her claim to fame:
“I definitely have a head for radio – I should be heard and not seen. So when you come to our shows you can listen to me but watch our guitarist Luke jump about like a crazy person while our drummer Lennon does his best Keith Moon/Animal impression.”

But don’t be fooled by Chris’ don’t-look-at-me attitude. Chris has a powerfully emotive and soulful voice that really delivers the insightful, touching and sometimes quirky lyrics that she and bass player Russell write. The sound this four-piece band makes is big and bold and beautiful.

“I could listen to [Chris] sing all night… an amazing voice” – multiple audience members, 2009-2019

Their eclectic mix of rock, pop, punk and blues, with a dash of psychedelia and sci-fi, catches the imagination and takes you on a toe-tapping journey.

Russell explains:
“For us it is all about the music. We want to make music that transcends generations, genres, gender and geography. Songs that inspire, songs that empathise. Songs about life, love, longing and laughter. We want our music to take you on a journey – whether it’s a trip down memory lane or a step towards an unknown future. Everyday songs for everyday people.”

The band self-released their four track EP ‘Cookie Crumbs’ in November 2018 through Ditto Music and were excited with the special mention in Ditto Music’s weekly new music release Facebook post (which even included ex-pat. Brisbanite Darren Middleton):
“Subatomic Cookie Bandits (best band name ever? Probably)” – Ditto Music, 30 Nov 2018

Subatomic Cookie Bandits were also over the moon when several community radio stations around Australia picked up ‘Be My Shirley Valentine’, ‘Caught in the Rain’ and ‘A Life on Mars’ in early 2019. The band also managed to dip their figurative toes into international waters, with the greatest amount of online streaming and downloading of the ‘Cookie Crumbs’ release coming from Great Britain, followed by Australia, USA, Belgium, Canada and the Russian Federation.
Currently waiting for the final mixing of their self-recorded single, ‘Super Me’, the band is looking forward to releasing the single soon and already have plans for making a music clip for it.
