ABOUT

My name is Ric. I'm a singer and a song writer living in Melbourne, though I hesitate to call myself a "singer songwriter," at least not yet. At this stage I have not released any songs, but I plan to eventually. Perhaps then I will call myself a "singer songwriter" when I have something to show for it.

Anyway. I love writing songs and I am open to collaboration with producers and other song writers... or anyone who needs lyrics or melodies for some reason or another.

As a singer I am open to collaboration for anyone who would like some male pop/R&B/Rap vocals for some project or another. I have quite a limited range, but attempt to make up for that in other ways.

I plan to record a vocal demo in the form of a new song tentatively called "Rise and Fall" right now, but I ran into some problems writing it and I haven't had a chance to get back to it, with so many things getting in my way - including other songs. For now I do have a song on my SoundCloud page that gives some small sample of my singing - a song called "Fireworks." Though, be warned! It was created with a $99 keyboard and a $2.99 microphone... so don't expect a radio quality hit single!

Oh and... Also...

I sing a mean Neil Diamond.

I'm not the best at actually finishing writing songs, but that's why collaborating on writing is so great - you aren't carrying the whole thing on your back and you can get a lot done.

My plans for 2021 is to finish many of my songs floating around my head (and fully demoed) get some decent quality home recording microphone etc. and make lots of music connections. I've done precious little with my talents and abilities so far in my life and this year that's about to change.

Influences

I've had a great deal of vocal influences but if I name any then that sort of invites a comparison that I can't live up to at all.

That said, I've been heavily influenced by a lot of what happened in the 90's R&B and Pop world. From Mariah Carey, Boys II Men etc, in the first half of the decade, up to the boy bands of the latter half, like Backstreet Boys, Westlife, 5ive and so on.

For Hip Hop vocals I haven't worked on it in a while, so it's not as good as it could be, but I'd say my flow has been influenced by Dr Dre and 2pac... Coolio... Actually, maybe even... MC Hammer... hahahaha. Eminem has been a massive inspiration for me.

Also a shoutout to my man, Allday. If it wasn't for Allday I would never have even tried rap in the first place. I don't know why, but something about his music just made me want to rap along with him. It was challenging at first, but doing that and stretching your mind, giving that side of your brain a workout, I realised that it was not impossible after all.

As far as rock vocals are concerned, again I have been heavily influenced by the music popular in the 90's. The grunge and Alternative music of the time was packed with great gravelly baritone-esque vocals that I immediately took to. I just love singing along with Eddie Vedder, Scott Weiland and so on and so forth, up until a certain point where I don't have the range. Also, 90's James Hetfield is another one I was and am addicted to singing. I think James Hetfield has been my biggest influence, as far as rock vocals are concerned.

My song writing influences are much more difficult to pin down, unfortunately. I have been heavily influenced by Max Martin's music of the 90's, but because I have a broad taste in music stretching from Tchaikovsky to Amon Amarth and everything in between, I have taken little bits of inspiration from everywhere, honestly.
