I've spent something like 6 years developing a decently minimalist style drawn from musicians such as Jamie Hince and Jack White, mixed with varied song structures drawn from musicians such as Damon Albarn, Radiohead, and LCD Soundsystem, as well as consciously pushing away from blues rock and the like because Christ on a bike there's just barely any room for creativity there. Love adventurous bands like Radiohead, bands that creatively mix genres together like St Vincent, and frequently (but not as a rule) singers with a fairly staccato and almost rap like approach to lyrics like Jack White or Allison Mosshart and who have more interesting things to talk about than just, say, love or how lovely it is when you're off your tits with your friends. Which it is, but you get what I mean.
