ABOUT

I've played drums on and off since my teenage years and am now 63. I listen to a wide range of music, from Tom Waits to Joanna Newsom (to pick 2 extremes) but have a hankering to play in a trad jazz/blues band that is mostly brass, e.g. tuba, trombone, trumpet plus maybe a sax/clarinet. I have a vision of a band playing on a street corner somewhere in Brunswick, like a kind of old time New Orleans band. Almost a Salvation Army feel! If that sounds like something that might appeal to you, let's have a chat and see if we're on the same wavelength. See "Influences" for some examples of the style and kind of tunes I have in mind.

Influences

*Possible* style and tunes for a brass band. Some of these don't currently include brass but I'm imagining the main instrument (e.g. slide guitar) being played by a trombone or trumpet. This would require some transposing!

1. Pig meat (Ry Cooder) - I'm not necessarily suggesting this song but it's the kind of sound I'm thinking of, a little loose and clunky.
2. St James Infirmary (Preservation Hall Jazz Band)
3. Free to Be Me (Benny Powell)
4. Cakewalk Into Town (Taj Mahal)
5. Telephone Call from Istanbul (Tom Waits)

A bit more work required to transpose these to a brass format:
6. Gimme Some Money (Spinal Tap) would be fun.
7. You Gotta Move (Rolling Stones)
