ABOUT

I am an experienced drummer/percussionist with 25 years of live and recording knowledge behind me. I have performed with many Australian performers ranging from low to mid-high profile. Musical styles have included:

Reggae, Funk, Latin/Brazilian (a very broad term I know!), Jazz, Blues , R&B (southern/clasic and contemporary), Rock/Pop, Acoustic Celtic, Smooth Groove Jazz/Rock/Progressive, Orchestral, Theater, and even some 20's "Cotton Club Orchestra" styled gigs at one point.

Some pivotal life changes over the past decade have seen me put music "in the back seat" but I have continued to teach music for a living with some random gigging and home recording thrown in.

Over the past 6 years I have been working on my other musical love, Bass Guitar. Now I am looking to move into a musical situation that will allow me to contribute my solid groove and feel within a group or songwriting situation. I am not a beginner on bass, I guess Intermediate would be where I sit. And although my gigging experience for bass playing is low, my overall experience in professional and semi-professional music performance gains a lot of ground for me. I have a great ear when it comes to bringing out the subtleties of bass playing and am very keen to apply what I know towards the right musical setting or band.
I can contribute backing vocals to a line-up and can pitch harmonies quite well if it is required or adds to the song. I have sung lead previously but am not what I would consider a lead vocalist.

Influences

My musical influences for Drumming cover a very large range of music with the exception of perhaps Renaissance.
My influences for Bass playing are just as varied, but if I had to pin down styles/groups I guess it should include: Rock/Progressive, Southern Rock, Contemporary/Pop, Funk, R&B (more classic 60's), Reggae, Jazz/Blues and Country/Rock.
Artist influences and inspirational players: Incognito, Toto (and loads of popular artists with a great feel), Miles Davis (pre and post fusion jazz era), John Coltrane, Robben Ford, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Joe Bonamassa, Jackson Five, Lucky Dube, Steel Pulse, Keith Urban (post Oz era), Anthony Jackson, Ab Laboriel, Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius and loads of additional unknown but excellent bass players. The reality is, there are so many bits of different artists that I will listen to that it's really hard to pigeon-hole... And then there's the audio production influences... ...

EQUIPMENT

Mapex Maple Custom kit with a varied array of percussion. Gibson 4 string bass. Amp and cabinets. An older Protools TDM recording rig, custom housed medium format recording console, medium range of live and recording microphones. Acoustic and semi-acoustic guitars. Blah,blah, who really cares. The reality;
If musical projects were determined by gear listings, then I'm not sure that's the type of musician I'd prefer to be playing with.
