Band to Join.ABOUT
So. I'm 55 years old. Been playing electric guitar since I was 17, which is far too long ago for me to be comfortable thinking about. Mostly I've been a bedroom-only guitar hero, except for a couple of years in the early 2000s when I was living in Canberra. A few of my student friends and I formed a thumpin', pumpin' punk rock band. Influences were bands like The Stooges and The Ramones. We played a mixture of covers and originals. Covers included songs by The Stooges, Mudhoney, Devo, and Divinyls. We gigged around Canberra (parties, clubs, pubs) for 2 years. The band folded when I moved to Brisbane in 2007.
I've come to the conclusion that I really don't practice and progress as a musician unless I have a reason or motivation. So I'm looking to form or join a new band. (My day job doesn't offer any instant gratification, but I've discovered the fun of performing in front of an audience.) Over the past couple of years I have picked up the bass and developed a strong interest in jazz. I'd like to try playing some jazz on the bass. I'm practicing at home but it might be fun to try it with others. **STOP PRESS** I have picked up saxophone again. I used to play it as a kid before the rock'n'roll guitar bug bit me. Trying to play jazz and improvise. Taking lessons again! I think I have come a long way since starting lessons. I guess I'm an intermediate sax player now.

Influences
On the jazz side of things, I have 5 main influences: Bird, Monk, Miles, Trane and Jaco. I'm still learning how to play this stuff but the jazz direction is definitely where I am heading.
