Band to Join, Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar.

I've got day job, and I'm not turning pro! I still make mistakes and have lots to learn, but I'm serious and dedicated about becoming the best musician I can be. I LOVE to play music live – it fills a little part of my soul like nothing else can. While I've been playing guitar for 20+ years, five years ago I joined an amateur covers band through the New York Guitar School Rock Band program, which exponentially improved my playing (and timing!) and my understanding of what it really means to be part of 'a band'. My bands ended up playing numerous NYC venues (Kenny's Castaways, Fontana's, Sullivan Hall, etc), which was great because we soon realized that rehearsing only goes so far because NOTHING beats live performances for improving your chops!

I've relocated to Australia and am keen to replicate my NYC experience. I'm less interested in just jamming-the-blues-with-some-beers, and more interested in digging into (as a unit) the parts, arrangements and dynamics of some great songs. So my expectation would be that everyone arrives at rehearsals knowing the material in advance, so the focus is dedicated to practicing to play together dynamically.

I believe in the six criteria of being a good band mate: 1.Passion, 2.Commitment, 3.Critique, 4.Contribution, 5.Homework, 6.Performance :)

There's some music I love to listen to that I'm not really interested in playing. There's lots more that makes me want to grab the six-string (starting with David Bowie - I could be happy in a DB tribute band all day long!). Equally there were songs other band members suggested that were new to me, and that I ended up loving. So here's a sample of songs I played in NYC:

Let's Go/The Cars, Sex On Fire/Kings of Leon, Town Called Malice/The Jam, So Hard For You/The Basics, China Girl/David Bowie, London Calling/The Clash, Don't Believe A Word/Thin Lizzy, Creep/Radiohead, International Playboys/Morrissey, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now/The Smiths, Transmission/Joy Division, Rock And Roll/Led Zeppelin, I Want You To Want Me/Cheap Trick, Let's Dance/David Bowie, First We Take Manhattan/Leonard Cohen, Sweet Child O' Mine/GNR, My Sharona/The Knack, One Way Or Another/Blondie, Steady As She Goes/The Raconteurs, It's My Life/No Doubt, Celebrity Skin/Hole, Flagpole Sitta/Harvey Danger, Just Like Heaven/The Cure, Sunday Bloody Sunday/U2, She Sells Sanctuary/The Cult, etc - you get the idea...
