ABOUT

Sydney Ska Collective (S.C.C.) is a group of ska enthusiasts that want to play ska. We are musicians that want to play for musics sake and the proverbial love of music. Bands in our experience generally suck because of huge egos or inequality and band "leader" authoritarianism, not to mention management or record company bullsh*t. Add to that band domestics and personality clashes and it's no wonder so many bands fail.

SCC avoids this sh*te by being;

1. 100% democratic , ( Greek type, not American ). All decisions regarding collective voted upon.
2. Open membership, anyone can play , or leave, just practice or play gigs, no body can be kicked out (unless see 1.)
3. Anarchist structure,Every one is equal, No band leader, no authority ,no songwriter or ownership credits , all money's earned split evenly to active participants (gigs , or recordings)
4. Only Trojan Box Set !!!No musical ego wanking or style/taste preferences, we all just play traditional , old school ska, anyone can bring a song from the Trojan Ska Box Set and the collective will learn it and add it to the song list. This rule is to stop songwriter authority, make it simple for anyone to study and play a song, keep everyone on the same page and make it very easy to expand our song list and perform regardless of who turns up to practice or gigs. It also gives us instant fan base of anyone familiar with the Trojan collection and gives new ska fans access to what we play without us even releasing anything.
5.Collective membership is static and random with the idea the more players the better. This is perfect for ska AND perfect for band member apathy and different commitment levels. If you cant make it to a gig , hopefully there is a back up member that can fill the spot. If we have 3 horns on the night, that's even better. If you just want to play ska every now and then , that's cool too. stage fright? Don't play gigs, just jam.
Everything is cool , let's just play ska and if we get money ,that's split evenly to who ever is performing . And in a democracy everything is possible, so if your adamant you want an old school ska song that's not on Trojan , then we can vote on it and a 100% consensus result will make it happen.
6. Any incurred costs are split between beneficiaries . i.e. Rehersal space split between who is rehearsing on the day.
