ABOUT

We are starting a reasonably advanced bluegrass and old tyme group that has both Americana and Australian flavours. We do standard bluegrass and old tyme songs as well as blues , swing and country songs.

We are a group of musicians would need a fiddle/violin player. Both Pam (a wonderful blues, roots and jazz singer whose original band was The Cow paddies who played at Glebe markets for many years as lead singer ). and Myself, Michael, have played with various bands and soloed on guitar, mandolin and banjo as well as vocals. My original band was a world folk band (2 males and 2 females) back in the 1980s that did three part harmony singer as well as the band having a fiddle player, acoustic bass, guitar and flute/whistle players.

We all have had experience in playing in bands and am starting now from scratch to get together a small family of musicians (5 at most) to play bluegrass, blues, swing and old tyme music. The fiddle/violin player would have a prominent soloing role along with a mandolin, banjo, guitar and dobro players in conventional bluegrass soloing and improvisation around songs and tunes.

it would be great to get players from the very beginning of this band. We are trying for a mix of two to three women and two or three males depending. We currently have two males and Pam as main vocalist. We are also hoping that another female singer who plays violin would feature.

We can rehearse in Ashbury/Ashfield, North Bexley and/or Oyster Bay mostly on a Thursday night and weekends. I am also available all week to rehearse and perfect styles as I am self employed and semi retired. Pam and myself have already a repertoire of 30-40 songs and tunes, and along with Rod our mandolin (extra guitar ) player we will have a variety of bluegrass, western swing and old tyme tunes to play. We are also very open to any new songs for the band that each person can bring. The band is run along egalitarian decision making lines and as evolving friendships for people to enjoy the music and learn as we go.

We are hoping initially to do bluegrass and folk festivals around NSW ACT and Victoria, and progress to some more weekly and weekend performing situations/gigs. Open to suggestions.

We are influenced by Flatt and Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Stanley Brothers, Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss and Union Station. KD Laing, Red Molly, Emmy Lou Harris, Johnny Cash, Nat Kind Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and other blues and jazz singers, andf many old tyme and blues musicians.

We are all talented older musicians in our 50s, A female vocalist, guitar mandolin and banjo player an dmandolin and guitar player. We are interested in adding a fiddle player an dobro player to the band, and hopefully with some harmony and vocal ability.
