ABOUT

Ideally, I'd like to do something like the Hot Winter Night Poetry Jam in the music section of this bio, but I'm able to sing punk if need be. Equally; if not more, content to sing softly, romantically. I'm interested in doing poetry albums like the one Jack Kerouac did with Steve Allen. I'm into Lou Reed, studied poetry and literature at university and have several hundred original poems committed to memory, ready to be sung over existing jams or improvisations.

Please get in touch if you're interested, or send me an instrumental track; I'll put a vocal on it. Always welcome collaboration. If you like what you hear, we'll take it from there.

Influences

The best live experience I've had to date was the first Mars Volta tour of Australia at the Big Day Out; I witnessed the mighty Jon Theodore in full flight. I inherited a bunch of vinyl from my folks, so I'm pretty dialled into the rock and roll of the sixties, seventies, eighties and nineties. I was into the punk rock coming out of California and some of the hardcore stuff coming out of New York. Strung Out. Sublime. Reagan Youth. Op Ivy. Flipper. No Trend. No Cash. Choking Victim. Leftöver Crack. Morning Glory. Star fckn Hipsters. I'm a huge Elliott Smith person. Pattie Smith. Blondie. Television. I love Nina Simone. Jeff Buckley too. Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed. Dylan. Tosh, Scratch and Marley. Woody Guthrie. Scott Walker. The Pogues. The Cranberries. Clannad. Crowded House. Kate Bush. Kraftwerk. Coltrane. Sidney Bechet. Saul Williams. Run the Jewels. Rage Against the Machine. Fela Kuti. Redgum are a tremendous Australian influence, in terms of down-to-earth folkyness and humour. Barkaa and Briggs. INXS and the mighty Midnight Oil. I've read a bunch of international literature; mostly pre-1950s, that I refer to, as well as a bunch of poets. Kerouac and all that. Henry Lawson. I'm a huge Haruki Murakami fan. Dostoyevski. Camus. Louis Aragon. Down and Out in Paris and London. Jack London. James Baldwin. Oriana Fallaci's A Man. I Never Promised You a Rose Garden. Henry Miller. I like magical realism and surrealism. At the moment, I'm really into what Laura Jane Grace is doing in the live setting. I like narcocorridos. I work as an English tutor and a climbing arborist.
