ABOUT

I have played tenor sax and blues harp in various bands over the years, including blues, soul, rock, funk, soul jazz and jazz standards (I don't pretend to be great jazz player though!), and whatever corporate clients require. I am most interested in swing/shuffle blues and just about anything on the Blue Note record label from the late 1950's to early 1960's. I read but not at walk in sight reading gig level - reminder dots only. Recent Canberra bands include The Turnaround, Minglewood Blues Band, Bamford Band, Judi Pearce and the Arrangement, Dean Edgecombe and the Seven Sons, and earlier Naked Soul and corporate band Crisp.

Influences

Blues, soul, funk, rock, and jazz. Anything played with soul really across any genre. So a snapshot of this week: Mel Torme's version of Comin' Home Baby (very cool), Five Blind Boys from Alabama with Charlie Musselwhite doing Way Down in the Hole, and transcribing a great Jimmy Vaughn guitar solo (not sure what the hammond trio was called) to both harp and sax. There's always some unexpected find on the internet somewhere.

EQUIPMENT

I have a couple of vocal PAs and all the associated guff. My lovely wife says I shouldn't buy any more blues harps or sax reeds but that won't stop me!
