ABOUT

G'day, I'm a laid back 39 year-old drummer looking to collaborate with anyone on almost anything.
This includes drummers - I have a fair synthesizer setup and have never played anything but drums in a band.

I've had several lessons on bass and violin, primarily for writing purposes.
After covid ended the last band I played in I've been trying to write music alone for a year or so, getting nowhere fast.

I miss that feeling of collaboration, the unspoken bond of playing music with other people so much it hurts! So here I am writing this

Roughly 18 years experience drumming plus many more banging stuff rhythmically as a child. So I'm at home with anything percussive... sticks, mallets, brushes, my hands, I love it all and will play through blisters, Whiplash style :D
- Plenty of song-writing/practising experience within a band and some live improv experience too
- I'm no expert, but I've a decent amount of knowledge about Ableton/Reason, VST/plugins as well as a little less about recording/mixing.

I have a home studio in my house. It was tight but I've had four people (inc/ myself) all playing, so if you don't mind the close quarters it could serve as an initial practice room, or more

I'm also an avid writer, I'm trying to get my first book published at the moment and love to write lyrics, though it has been a while. I've been told I am a good singer though I've been too piss-weak scared to record it. Yet.

I hope to be making music with someone here soon!

Influences

everything really, from pop to metal to classical to 100% experimental noise. I love it all.

My experience within bands is skewed toward metal/hardcore punk, but I love all genres and would love to expand my experience.
I particularly like funk and the breakbeats that evolved from it, both in hip hop and DnB/jungle.

My biggest influence though is film, and by that I mean atmosphere.
That more than anything is what I set out to achieve - regardless of genre.
Hence my love for black metal, neo-classical drone, chamber music, soundtracks etc etc

A few of my favourite/influential drummers:

- Mitch Mitchell w/ Hendrix
- Dave Grohl
- Anything related to Dave Lombardo from Slayer/Fantomas/tons more
- Dale Crover from Melvins
- James Brown and funk drummers like Bernard Purdie and Clyde Stubblefield
- Klaus Dinger from Neu! and Jaki Liebezeit from Can

Many more but I reckon those are the ones that had the most influence on my style. They were my teachers really. Still are.

Other music that I love (excluding the above)

- Johann Johannsson (scored Sicario, Arrival, Mandy) and essentially all Icelandic music I've ever heard
- Cliff Martinez (did the score for Drive, The Neon Demon, Only God Forgives
- Brian Eno, both his warped pop-rock stuff and ambient
- DJ Premier/East Coast hip-hop
- Remarc, LTJ Bukem and most similar ragga jungle
- Almost all Krautrock/kosmische music, inc. modern stuff like Colour Haze
- early Pink Floyd
- Boris
- Anthrax

EQUIPMENT

--STUDIO--

I have built a recording studio into my house with homemade acoustic panels mounted on the walls/ceiling, it makes practicing and recording demos a breeze (and cheap!).

No fancy mixing console, just a powerful PC and two I/O interfaces: a Focusrite and Behringer, total of 16 mic inputs

--DRUM GEAR--

- Gretsch six-piece maple kit
- Bosphorus hats, 17" and 18" Meinl Thin Medium Crashes, 16" Paiste & 17" Sabian 'Holy' China crashes, 20" Sabian XS ride, 21" Meinl 'Serpent's Ride', 12" ,10" and 8" splashes

- Roland SPD-SX sampler with several trigger add-ons (v-snare, kick, cymbal) as well as sustain and expression foot-pedals.

- Wooden 12 inch djembe drum

SYNTHESIZER GEAR:

- Behringer Deepmind 12
- Behringer TD-3
- Behringer TD-3 MO SR 'modded out' version
- Behringer CRAVE
- Behringer EDGE
- Behringer Neutron
- Arturia Minibrute 2

- All are MIDI-chained while the audio from every synth goes through a Behringer 16 channel mixer.

--MICROPHONES & PA--

- Sennheiser sE X1A overhead condensers x 2
- Shure PGA 56 Cardioid Dynamic Snare/Tom Mics x 3
- Shure PGA 52 Cardioid Dynamic Kick Drum Mic

- Peavey PVM 321 directional bass mic

- Ridiculously loud Behringer Eurolive 115D PA speaker.

--OTHER--
- arguably too many VST/plugins. Especially delay, I bloody love messing with delay plugins. Would love to get something physical at some point
- violin
- Ibanez bass guitar with a VERY loud bass amplifier
