ABOUT

Celine Yap is a folk singer- songwriter who explores themes of social justice and the immigrant experience throughout history.

With a background in environmental science and community development, Celine crafts songs that are as thought-provoking as they are heartwarming—inviting audiences to laugh, cry, and question the world around them. The title track of her debut album Be Brave, was shortlisted for the Alistair Hulett Award in 2016.

Her latest releases, When the Dragon Came to Town and The Laundry Workers’ Lawyer, explore the rich history of the immigrant Chinese community in Australia.

Celine has performed at the Illawarra Folk Festival, Apollo Bay Music Festival, Folk by the Sea, and Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival. She was also selected by the University of Düsseldorf to perform at their International Conference on Australian Perspectives on Migration.
