ABOUT

I CAN PLAY UPSIDEDOWN UNDER WATER DRESSED AS PIKACHU.

Now that I have your attention, please keep reading so there's no wasting time (yours and mine).

I've been playing the bass for quite some time, with experience in bands. I'm not Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten or Marcus Miller, but I'm fierce in my practice and committed to learn the songs the band decide to play. Also, I believe in equality: no member of a band should be more important than the rest. Another thing I believe in, specifically in regard to covers, is creativity. In other words, I don't expect the lead guitarist to learn a solo (and execute it) in exact the same way the original sounds like, so the same apply for me as a bass player. I try to find alternative lines when appropriate, ones which won't surpass the role the bass plays in each song (for instance, I wouldn't use a funky bass line to play Radiohead, unless the band want to do it). This means I like being creative (good for bands with own songs - I've written quite a few myself). If this doesn't interest you, you can stop reading here.

I was born in South America, so I bring with me influence of bands and rhythms that may be unfamiliar to most Australians. By the same token, I'm slowly learning about Ozzie bands. And I'm keen to learn.

Gotta confess that as a bass player I love playing music in which the bass plays an important role (Bauhaus, Violent Femmes, RHCP, Bob Marley, Iron Maiden) or something groovy rather than simply playing as a dull support for the lead guitarist (like in most metal styles, despite the fact that I love metal).

I am looking for a creative, open-minded group of musos who believe that having fun is as important as putting the effort to practise, record and perform. I don't care about age, sex orientation or the brand of underwear you prefer as long as you're kind, diligent and light-hearted humans (or animals - especially mountain goats). I'm also keen on function/event bands (like wedding bands).

Influences

Below you'll find a small list of bands and styles I like. Most stuff by them are good:
The Buzzcocks, Paulinho da Viola, Anne Clark, Kraftwerk, Secos e Molhados, Daddy Cool, Pantera, Run DMC, Bruno Mars, Canned Heat, Infected Mushroom, Jamiroquai, Pastor Cervera, Yann Tiersen, Bowie, Johnny Cash, Buena Vista Social Club, Foo Fighters, Jorge Ben, Talking Heads, Kitty Daisy Lewis, Tom Zé, Rammstein, RATM, Scissor Sisters, to name but a few.
I also enjoy (a lot!) cultural traditional music (Irish drinking songs, Portuguese fado, the Mexican mariachis, Polish polka, Argentinian tango, Brazilian choro, Cuban salsa, etc), film scores (Tarantino films, horror scores, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Danny Elfman, Ennio Morricone) and electronic music (don't ask me for artists' names but I do like it).

EQUIPMENT

For now I've got a bass only but will buy an amp when I find a band (can't really use an amp where I live due to housemates).
