ABOUT

I have played drums with a variety of cover bands over the years in venues all over South Australia and Far North Queensland.
My early years involved performing in Adelaide cover bands playing current hit songs and originals as a headline act, and a support band for popular touring bands.
I later played in bands with a more retro and diverse repertoire for weddings, parties, clubs and special events.
I then moved to Cairns and continued to play a in a variety of bands from an acoustic duo to large ensembles and some studio work.
Over time I became more comfortable with my vocal ability and eventually formed my own band as the lead vocalist. For many years I ran the band, taking bookings, supplying the PA, paying musos as well as playing drums and singing.
Until recently I have only played part-time and have had a full-time job, but I am currently not working and looking around to see what the music scene in Adelaide has to offer after moving back from Cairns.

Influences

My father was a professional musician, and I was surrounded by music and musicians from an early age. Because of this I was exposed to a wide range of music from jazz to country and learned to appreciate all styles.
My early influences were, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Led Zeppelin, Foreigner, Skyhooks, Toto, Sweet and improved my chops by playing along to their albums.
My favorite drummers are Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd.
I love a good groove. It can be a driving rock beat, a funky pocket, or spacious ballad, as long as it feels good.
My listening can vary from heavy to laid back, including Stone Temple Pilots, Audioslave, Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Rush, Steely Dan, Ricky Lee Jones, Joe Jackson,
Some of my favorite Aussie bands are, Living End, Grinspoon, Baby Animals, Cold Chisel, Cog, Skyhooks, Thirsty Merc, The Truth, Electric Mary.
I tend to enjoy listening album tracks more than big hits, as I hear, or played them too often.
Having said this, I am happy to play what people want to hear, and my vocal repertoire consists of old favorites.

EQUIPMENT

I have a small PA including 16 channel desk and a couple of powered 2-way speakers
I have a brand-new Roland TD27KV2S electronic kit which is against all my old instincts.
They have come a long way, and sound amazing. They are great for practice, rehearsal and even live gigs.
I will get an acoustic if needed in the future and have thousands of dollars' worth of top end cymbals.
