Your bleary eyes struggle to open as you peel your head from the pillow. There's a steady ache already and dim memories of the night slowly emerge, chased by regret. The mysterious stranger beside you sleeps. You have to function somehow. There's a bottle of Tanqueray in the pantry. It's only 8am ... some mornings, the choice is simple.

Keeping the boys in line is Amy Piekkala-Fletcher, a Brisbanite of Finnish descent. She’s out in front of North Queenslander Mike Foster, Canberra’s Michael McKinnon and Nick the drummer. Nick, like Kylie and Madonna before him, needs but a first name. Anchoring the band is the extraordinary talent of Mal from Melbourne who, among other musical pursuits, once worked as a session musician for 'Hey Hey, it's Saturday'. The band’s line up also included Georgiana Mannion, who has since left to pursue other projects.

8am Gin has been a work in progress in the depths of West End for more than three years. Writing. Refining. Rehearsing. Drinking. A shared vision of music for the mind and heart.

From Tex Perkins and the Sunnyboys to the Saints, Ryan Adams and ABBA, the Ginners bring their own approach to the classics. Their originals are a soundtrack of the human condition, from Grim Black Mood's flicker of hope in a sea of despair, to the unapologetic and defiant blues siren Lord Loves a Sinner - "My momma told me when she was lying next to you, he's not your father, just the best that I could do''. Changed our Way charts the 2000 Reconciliation Walk over Sydney Harbour Bridge when our nation, for one shining moment, believed reconciliation was within reach.

The Ginners’ thought-provoking lyrics and sweet harmonies are reminiscent of the Waifs and early Fleetwood Mac. Embrace their musicianship, sentiment, charm, humour and love of a great song.
