ABOUT

After a bit of a rest from any serious musical activities now at 74 my love for playing bass is still strong.
In an ideal world I’d enjoy to be playing some good music with some accomplished musicians who listen louder than they play. I would also hope that they are at least as good or better than me as my own playing seems to step up a level when this is the case.
My father was a strong influence on my musical upbringing as he was a professional Bandleader, jazz violinist, composer and cabaret performer. I started with piano lessons at 5 And in my teens had Jazz and Classical guitar lessons.
Until my mid 20s I worked behind the scenes in London Music Entertainment industry in television and sound recording.
I then put my energy into becoming a professional woodworker furniture maker and on returning home to Australia at age 40 I decided to take up bass guitar.
While living in Murwillumbah I formed several different bands from covers to Celtic Rock and ended up joining a Gold Coast 7 piece band that morphed into “Best of the Bee Gees” touring tribute band.
Moved to Newcastle and started playing jazz doing functions such as weddings and corporate events, also co-formed a covers band called Palais that did a lot of work in local venues.
I enjoy transcribing and writing my own approach to harmony on songs including jazz standards also have done a fair bit of writing and arranging material.
I have a dedicated music room with PA, air conditioning and fresh air flow (Covid)

EQUIPMENT

I play long scale 5 string basses. One fretted and the other a fretless. I made Both of these about 20 years ago when I was making basses For other professional musicians. I have a Mark Bass Amplifier and purpose built boxes with Jensen speakers or EV TL 15.
Have recently purchased a Tascman Model 12 mixer/digital recorder with intention to get back into recording (if I can break away from my old analogue ways).
I have also a nice Washburn acoustic guitar and a Yamaha P150 piano.
