ABOUT

Music resume for Paul Hitchins

Paul started playing the drums aged 14 in school jazz bands, and quickly developed skills in the R’n’B and rock styles, eventually landing the drumming role with Gulliver Smith (ex Company Caine, and co-writer with Ross Wilson of John Farnham’s Hit “Touch of Paradise”).

Aged 18 Paul was invited to audition for a new band Steve Cummings was putting together.
This was the start of the legendary Oz rock band “The Sports”.

“The Sports” career spanned 8 years and 5 albums, and in that time created enormous success in Australia and internationally, touring the U. K. & U.S.A. in 1979 with their hit album ”Don’t Throw Stones”, released on Mushroom Records in Australia.
The album and single “Who Listens to the Radio” went into the Top 10 hit in Australia.
Melburnian new-wave-meets-pub-rock group The Sports launched their career in 1978, spawning 13 singles in four years, including the hits ‘Strangers on a Train’, ‘Who Listens to the Radio’ and ‘Don’t Throw Stones’.
The band had four albums reach the Top 40, and their acclaimed sophomore release Don’t Throw Stones (1979) was ranked #51 in the 2010 book 100 Best Australian Albums.

The band folded in 1981, and Paul moved on to play, tour, and record with many great Australian artists including:-
• Phil Manning (Chain)
• Ross Wilson (Daddy Cool / Mondo Rock)
• Jane Clifton (The Nighthawks)
• The Sundowners
• Pat Wilson (“Bop Girl”)

In 1986 Paul moved to Perth and commenced playing and recording with many great West Australian acts including:-

• A2Z Reggae
• Ivan Zar
• Slim Jim & The Fatts
• Jim Fisher
• Dave Warner
• Ernie Dingo
• Lucky Oceans
• The Riddum Shakers
• The Love Bites

With a career spanning 45 years plus Paul now brings his music skills to the wonderful original music of “Bughunt”, teaming up once again with legendary bass man Robert Bailey, the original AC/DC bassist.
